To improve the wellbeing of Persons with Disability (PWDs), the Government has shifted from cash support to the provision of income-generating items to make them productive to reduce poverty.
Mr Alfred Amoah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai in the Western North Region, said this when he presented some revenue generating items to 40 selected PWDs in the Municipality valued at GH¢100,000.00.
They included deep freezers, fufu pounding machines, industrial machines and courier motorbikes also known as ‘Aboboyaa’.
Mr Adams Iddrisu, the Acting Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, said 800 PWDs were registered across the Municipality after a needs assessment out of which the 40 beneficiaries were selected.
Mr Isaac Kyere, the Municipal Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disability, expressed gratitude to the Government for making the needs of PWDs paramount, and urged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use to improve their living conditions.
He entreated those who did not benefit not to despair as the programme was ongoing and would soon get to their turn.
