Meet Ghana’s ‘Stevie Wonder’, The Blind Sound Engineer And Keyboardist

Ebenezer Novi is organist for the Akropong School for the Blind

Many people commonly assume that visually impaired musicians are limited to exploiting other important areas of their life but 29-year-old Ebenezer Novi challenges that perception.

Blind from birth, Ebenezer who was once a student at the Akropong School for the Blind has returned to his Alma matter but this time around, as their Pianist.

“I am an old student for the school for the blind. The choirmaster is my teacher, he trained me so I decided to come back and help. I have been doing this since I was 18 years old” he stated

He is not the first blind musician but he is probably one of the very few to support himself for ten years playing the piano, despite being born blind.

Eben who admitted that it has not been all rosy listed some of his challenges and what keeps him strong.

“I am not able to see so I make little flops here and there. The good thing is, if you know how to play it, you know it,” he stressed. Nonetheless, Ebenezer is pleading for support from individuals to help him establish a recording studio since he is also practising sound engineering and singing.

“I want a studio. A nice recording studio because I’m learning sound engineering too and I can sing as well. I need a studio so I can equip my learning skills,” he added.
