Kassena Nankana Municipal Special School Building In Bad Condition; Needs Urgent Attention

The building of the Balobia Special School of the Kassena Nankan Municipality of the Upper East Region of Ghana, is fast deteriorating and may soon turn into a death trap.

It would be recalled that on March 17, 2022, DisabilityNewsGH.com reported that the only Special School in the Municipality has just one classroom block, and as a result, all the 34 pupils with different categories of physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities are taught together; a situation that is negatively affecting teaching and learning at the school.

Our further checks show that the 15-year-old school building is also in a bad condition. It has cracked walls, cracked pillars, and an inaccessible veranda with a badly broken floor. Some of the doors and windows are permanently closed with nailed bars due to broken hinges.

The school does not have toilet and urinal facilities; there are no sanitary facilities or disinfectants to help keep the classroom clean and fresh, and also lacks teaching and learning materials. The others include inadequate teaching staff, inadequate furniture, and no bus to transport the children to and from school.

Authorities of the school are yearning for an upgrade of the school to a boarding status with all necessary facilities befitting a school for children with disabilities.

The Head Teacher of the school could be contacted on 0240391919 or the Assistant Head Teacher on 0242528566.
