COVID-19: Talent Hour Gives Food To Persons with Disabilities

The Talent Hour for Persons with Disability, a non-governmental Foundation with a focus on persons with disabilities (PWDs), has donated some food items to some PWDs in Accra and Kasoa areas.

The items worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis included rice, cooking oil, canned fish and canned tomatoes.

The beneficiary areas included Omanjor, Ofankor Barrier, Pokuase Amanfrom, Alhaji near Tabora, Bush Road, and Accra Rehabilitation Centre.

The NGO also presented some items to the leadership of the Royal Sparrows Band, all visually impaired band, as well as some beggars on the streets of Accra.

Rationale

The Founder of the Foundation, Mr Obeng Ansah, in an interview said the foundation also sent mobile money to other PWDs who were far from Accra to enable them buy some essential products they may need during the lockdown period.

He said since the lockdown directive was announced by President Akufo-Addo on Friday, March 27, 2020 as part of measures to curtail the spread of the disease in the country, many persons with disabilities had been calling the NGO for help.

That, he explained, the NGO in spite of its limited resources, decided to mobilise the little it had to purchase some food items for distribution to all persons with disabilities in the mentioned areas.

Mr Obeng has therefore called on other NGOs and benevolent individuals who may wished to support persons with disabilities during the lockdown but did not know where to locate them to engage Talent Hour for Persons with Disability.

He also commended the government for the various taken in assisting the less privileged, including persons with disabilities with some food items.

Aim

He said the foundation since its establishment seeks to promote talents in persons with disabilities, and that the NGO was established with the aim of creating awareness for a better world that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable for everyone, where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realized.
